Day Ten: #WoPoWriMo - Box in the Attic

You spoke to me today,
through the scent of the dust,
and the mothballs
in a long-closed
box; you spoke and the words
flew across
the years, like the wings of grey doves -
they wrapped and consumed me
in memories of love; unconditional; and a deep
summer haze. They smelled of the moss
that adorned and glazed
the lawn
in your garden of roses, and recalled
sugared pies and daisy-chain
posies, picked and planted
in an egg-cup display;
they remembered all that was given
and taken away, under a precautious
strawberry-sun. It seemed I blinked,
one afternoon,
and you were gone;
climbed peeling paint
of old stone stairs;
barely above
the height of my knee,
just to find,
you were no longer there.

I opened a box in the attic today - it smelled of my Great-Grandma's house. I hadn't breathed in that scent in twenty-four years... :)

Day Nine: #WoPoWriMo - Unnecessary Words

Say nothing on things
that don’t need words – a thousand
lessons leave
a million things to learn, and we are
only,
just
watching the world turn and
be born anew, under a soft-grey sky.
Forget these glass hearts, and
tuneless
lullabies; the gap filled
by a dying rose; forget all the truths
we have failed to expose,
- tomorrow
is another day.
Say nothing,
only turn this way, and grow older:
let’s get crows’ feet of bliss...
Unnecessary words
don’t speak,
with the voice,
of an essential kiss.

Day Eight: #WoPoWriMo - Ain't No Sunshine

I dreamed of you, and the way
you touch, of gentle fingers, and
the fairy-dust that falls like
tumbling, glitter-rust, through
body, and mystified soul. I
dreamed of caresses and the
way you hold and, how you
wrap and envelope
all of me
like the smallest rose,
coaxing joy
into hungry bones. With an
elegance
that bends and folds,
all reason beyond all doubt, I
dreamed of how you filter out
warm rays
through days of ice-cold, I
felt your dream-strands
of beautiful gold, change my colours
and entwine me
in affectionate embrace;

and pushing
through the clouds, I awoke,
with a longing to see
your face.

Day Seven: #WoPoWriMo - The Sky is Falling

When the sky began to fall,
it was not for want
of mighty Atlas trying
to hold it. It was simply too
much arduous weight,
on torn and world-weary
shoulders. Shrapnel
rained down
on the foot-sore soldiers of
a wild and never-ending war.  In the
face of defeat, they stood
and fought
their battles
that had no conclusion;
blindly followed the tattered flag
into confusion and a restless
sleep.  Chain-mail
and armour could only keep
sharp weapons
from piercing their hearts;
the holy cosmos had fallen
apart and planted star-seeds of doubt;
watching, they saw the danger
had eaten them all,
from the inside out.

Day Six: #WoPoWriMo - The Night Comes Calling

A warning of red,
spreads across a sky,
lowing and bleating, as a day
creeps by, lost in tomorrow and
bovine sighs of lava-hot breath.
Lonely feline, treads and tests, her way,
along
a stepping-stone path;
cotton-wool calls
down to ask, if a moon
should light the hunt.

Beneath me, you shift,
flanks growing,
soft grunt
of impatience
as we take in the view. A train rattles by
on the viaduct below:
and it ought
to shatter our peace.

But it raises no more than
gentle release as you drop
your hock to rest.
Watching the sunset, we are
more than blessed with effervescent glory;
and we listen
to increasing,
beautiful
nothingness
as the night comes calling.
