Day Five: #WoPoWriMo - Snow Falling

The world was enthroned,
this morning,
on frost,
all distant things
forgotten,
and lost in depths of a late-winter charm;
in flakes
that fluttered,
then nestled, in arms, that promised
an elegant embrace. Softer than satin,
more delicate than lace, they settled
as eyes, on a beloved
face, dusted a branch
with Aphrodite’s grace and sweet sugar,
in the early, half-light. The only senses,
required
were unblemished sight,
and the ability
to rapturously feel, as feathered fingers
did silently steal
the caresses of a fond, crystal glaze.
Ice-fairies happily bathed, in lagoons
that warmed
on a palm upturned,
each was unique, and blessed with pearls,
and diamonds,
of inimitable kind, as the darkness gave way
to desolate beauty,
and the soaring of an engaged mind.

Day Four: #WoPoWriMo - A Waking Heart String

The sky was still sleeping, when your
heartstrings were woken,
long had they slumbered, both lost and out
spoken, of their days
in sweet,
silent ways. The sun
had not yet cast
her gaze upon the edges
of the dawning world.
Grey-tinged, remained
the dips and curves
of season-less lands
beyond the bedroom panes;
orange and mauve, crept, in vain,
along the fringes of leaves
and light-hungry blades, who would blindly
steal them
for keeping;

…and I held tight
to your ghost-cold hand – wake up,
you were only dreaming.

Day Three: #WoPoWriMo - Train-Lights

Blind train-lights loom
as the frigid,
night’s mist,
comes curling, and caressing
around me,
embracing like arms, or vines,
round a pine tree;
cool and fragile,
as tender,
blown glass;
and a forest, of stark,
strip-lights,
flicker,
to the sound
of an imagined,
crash.

Nothing’s given over;
nothing asked,
but the stars
all glitter
in response.
The brightest holds out
his beams to me
and requests
my hand
to dance.
Amidst the evening,
we whirl, entranced,
and then stopping,
hold on,
and stand.

Head to head,
eye to eye,
the night offers me
kisses, and heavy
sighs, as he beseeches,
‘only stay’.
I glance up,
at the squealing train,
and I turn away;
more inclined,
ever,
to remain,
here, in his peaceful
arms.

The silent night,
and I,
walk home together;
our serenity a soothing balm.

Day Two: #WoPoWriMo - They Came to Cut the Trees Today

They came to cut the trees back
today,
slowly chopping, and sawing;
gently hacking
away; at my memories
of golden
summer days.
The creaking of wood screamed,
and splintered
my gaze, from the window
of the room
with a view.

All the branches they considered,
too long and too low,
severed in sweet morning’s
serenity. Buzzing monster
offered no indemnity, and with them
crashed down,
all my youthful eternity,
in the knowledge
of time,
they would take,
to re-grow.

Gone, the bow,
where a childhood once sat.
Gone, all those green-dreams, so idly
cast, to the clouds,
through tangled rooftops,
and the heat-bleached leaves.
Gone, something simple,
innocent,
beautiful,
the day they came
to cut
the trees.

Day One: #WoPoWriMo - Driver

A thousand red tails lights,
and a bread crumb trail,
illuminate the finer points
of minor
details;
they ask me to name it
and the truth is
unveiled: suddenly everything,
(yet nothing)
all at once.

That finer point is surprisingly blunt,
and earnestly vague,
in ever the coldest,
most winter-light
of days, and they pass
in the same,
old-mournful ways, as all the things
you choose,
not to hear,
or see.

And in the darkness,
the break lights,
light up
only me, and all the secrets
I still long to disguise;
as I place my tired  hands
on the spinning wheel of life,
and close my blind-weary eyes...

...waiting now,
for the signal to change,
and someone else
to drive.
